Learning about Vera

It's another old rainy day and night here in Ohio...
Lucky for me, I have this colorful vintage Vera Neumann scarf to brighten my day.

I've always loved Vera's gorgeous floral and geometric textiles. But I only had a vague idea about the background, how to date them, what's hot (hey, what's not, when it's Vera!) and all those good things. For longtime collectors and fans, this might not be new information, but here's what my research turned up.

Fuzzylizzie Vintage Clothing provides a lovely background on Vera's story. She tells how Vera and her husband, George Neumann, started their studio right after WWII in their loft, using surplus silk from the war. Read this story, http://fashionsfinest.fuzzylizzie.com/vera.html, and see if it inspires you too! Lovely pictures are included with this nice piece. Thank you Lizzie Adams Bramlett, for providing such a thorough history on a well-loved designer!

Here's a pretty example from etsy in cottagewear's shop:

On Fuzzylizzie's page, she kindly provides a link to the Vera Blog for more detailed info on dates, etc. Check it out here: http://theveracompany.blogspot.com/2009/10/to-date-your-vera-products.html. Here you'll find a ton of info about how to date Vera products, also with great pics. I was so happy to see that the Vera legend lives on through The Vera Company LLC That's a very cool story too, read all about it.

Still want more Vera? Digging ever more through the web, I found a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/The-Vera-Company/75290094979 for Vera lovers. Lots of comments, Q&A, information on current production, fan faves, and devoted followers of Vera Neumann!

A lovely example of another red, white, and blue Vera design from vint on etsy.

I started out the morning with gray skies, and I'm ending it with the sound of thunder rumbling through the Ohio Valley. Free-spirited color and design via Vera brightened my day though, and I hope the Neumann's story and their lovely creations brighten your day and night too.
